GUARDIANSHIP

Guardianship

Wabash Center’s Guardianship program provides adult guardianship services to anyone 18 years or older with special needs, including seniors with decreased decision-making capabilities. These individuals have nobody willing, able, and suitable to be their guardian. Our goal is to advocate for the best quality of life possible on their behalf.

We, as guardians, advocate for access to proper social services and healthcare representation. This is done on behalf of the individuals we serve and their specific needs. Additionally, we train volunteer advocates who get to know the individuals so they can support them in the best way possible.

Together, the guardian and the volunteer advocate create a safety net for the individual they serve. They offer their voice for those unable to use their own.

Meet Gina!

Gina is one of our wonderful staff members, and has been serving as a volunteer advocate for 7 years. In that time, she’s worked with 6 different individuals, including Liz (left). She chose this because she recognized the importance of individuals having someone they can rely on to support them. Although it can be difficult at times, Gina believes in making sure everyone gets the respect and dignity they deserve in their life decisions, and aids the individuals she serves in feeling that reassurance that someone is there to listen to them. Liz calls her often just to chat and be reminded that someone is on her side.
“They have a voice, and I show them that they can use that voice.”

Wabash Center operates under the Volunteer Advocates for Seniors and Incapacitated Adults Grant (VASIA) in partnership with the courts in Tippecanoe and Montgomery Counties.

Guardianship Services are offered at our Greater Lafayette location.
