Tippecanoe Adult Guardianship Services: About
Tippecanoe Adult Guardianship Services (TAGS) volunteer guardians agree to take on the responsibility to serve as guardians to represent the interest of incapacitated adults. Sometimes adults with dementia, mental illness, intellectual or developmental disabilities aren't able to handle their personal and financial affairs.
The volunteer guardians work in close collaboration with local healthcare and social service organizations. Through their service, volunteer guardians strengthen the incapacitated adult's quality of life and restore their self dignity.
Volunteer guardians build a trusting relationship with the incapacitated adult, and advocate for the individual. Being a volunteer guardian is a rewarding and heart-warming experience.
"I have worked with three adults and found each one rewarding. With one of my ladies, the minute she sees me coming in, she starts to wave and I see her gorgeous smile. You just can't help but feel wonderful, and you've done nothing but give of your time. With another client, when I got my first call from him after he was situated in a residence, it felt like my own child had called me to check in. No matter how stressed I am in my own life, when I spend time with a client, I feel so good."
