Assisted Living Services: Our Team

STAFF INFORMATION AND BIOS

The Assisted Living Services Program at Wabash Center is very proud of our consistent and stable staff team.

In addition to the comprehensive initial training program, staff members are also provided seminars and in-service training programs monthly to ensure the highest quality of care possible.


Tina Richter
Director
Holds a degree in elementary education from Purdue University; came to Wabash Center in 1989. "I like being a part of something incredible, and I feel proud of what I do. I get to teach and learn from consumers, staff and families. I feel like I can make a difference in the lives of the people around me."

Kim Daugherty
Assistant Director

Joined Wabash Center in 1999; has held several posts, including direct care; named assistant director in 2006. "My consumers inspire me to be a better person. They show me what it is to overcome challenges gracefully, with a smile on their beautiful faces. They are my inspiration, my heart and soul. To see them grow and excel in making their hopes and dreams come true is the best feeling in the world."

Tawnya Dempsey
Staffing Coordinator

Studied law and society at Purdue University; joined Wabash Center in 1999. "I love the folks we work with and I enjoy seeing them grow and become more independent each day. And there is always something new to learn."

Ronda Hicks
Community Living Coordinator

Earned a Purdue University bachelor's degree in physical education and Indiana University master's in kinesiology; came to Wabash Center in 1989; has worked with children and adults. "I love seeing the folks grown and change."

Karen Armstrong
Community Living Coordinator

Earned a masters degree in social anthropology from St Andrews University in Scotland. Joined Wabash Center in 2008 from a background in education and mental health. "In my humble opinion helping people help themselves is the most rewarding work that you can do."

Community Living Coordinator

Began her Wabash Center career in 1999. Most enjoys "making a difference in people's lives."

Community Living Coordinator

Came to Wabash Center in 2002. "I like working here because every day is a different challenge. No matter what kind of day you're having, the consumers will put a smile on your face."

Paula Nicholson
Supported Living Program Manager

Holds a nursing assistant diploma; worked four years with the elderly; began working with Wabash Center consumers who live in their apartments in 2000. "Whether it's teaching new skills, developing professional relationships in the community or giving families peace of mind that their loved one is being taken care of, I like helping people and helping consumers achieve a meaningful life."

Office Manager
Joined Wabash Center in 2005. "I love the consumers and what they teach me about life."

Barb Slayton
Director of Nursing

A registered nurse with bachelor's degrees in nursing and education; on Wabash Center staff since 1999. "I like knowing I make a difference in the quality of life of those I serve. I can't always alleviate a chronic health issue, but I can work with the client's medical team to minimize its impact. And I enjoy learning the lessons my clients teach me. They truly are inspiring."
